Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the PTA?
The PS384Q Parent Teacher Association (PTA)  is a group of dedicated parents collaborating with school staff to enrich the school community through programs, events, and advocacy. The PS384Q PTA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

  2. Who is eligible to join the PTA?
Any parent or guardian with a child registered at PS384Q is automatically a member of the PS384Q PTA—no sign-ups required!

  3. How much does it cost to join the PTA?
Our PTA is completely free to join. There are no dues or required donations. All parents are encouraged to participate in any way they can.

  4. Why should I participate in the PTA?
Joining the PTA is a great way to stay informed, have a voice, support your child’s school experience, and build connections with other families and school staff.

  5. What does the PTA do?
The PTA organizes events, fundraisers, and programs that benefit students, teachers, and families. This can include enrichment activities, teacher appreciation, community-building events, and school improvements.

  6. Does the PTA have a say in school policies or curriculum?
The PTA works in collaboration with the school on many issues, including enrichment programming and community initiatives. While we advocate for students and families, curriculum-related questions and school policies are ultimately determined by the school administration and the School Leadership Team (SLT). For more information on the SLT, visit the SLT page on the school’s website.

  7. Why does the PTA raise money?
Fundraising supports school programs, classroom resources, field trips, and special events that are not covered by the school budget. For more information on the programs we support, visit our Programs page.

  8. What types of events does the PTA organize?
Our annual events include Fall Festival, Neon Nights, and the Spring Benefit. The PTA also organizes a variety of other events, including bake sales, cultural celebrations, silent auctions, and ice cream socials. Additionally, the PTA coordinates Picture Day, the Read-a-Thon, the Scholastic Book Fair, and the PS384Q Yearbook while also providing essential support during Field Day. To explore upcoming and past events, visit our Events page.

  9. What happens at a PTA General Membership meeting?
PTA General Membership meetings provide opportunities for families to stay informed and engaged. They include updates from the Principal, School Leadership Team (SLT), and PTA Treasury, as well as key information on PTA initiatives and events. Parents also vote anonymously on important matters, including funding of PTA programs. All PS384 parents are eligible to vote and participate. Our meetings also have an Open Forum where families can ask questions or provide feedback. View our meeting schedule here.

  10. Do I have to attend every PTA meeting if I join?
No, but attending meetings helps you stay informed and have a say in PTA decisions. Meeting minutes are shared for those who cannot attend.

  11. How can I volunteer?
There are many ways to contribute, from event planning and fundraising to supporting PTA Committees. Visit our Volunteer page for more information.

  12. I work full-time. Can I still be involved?
Absolutely! There are plenty of ways to help, including remote tasks, evening events, and occasional volunteering opportunities. Our PTA meetings are held in the evenings at 6:30PM to accommodate most working parents’ schedules.

  13. How can I suggest a new PTA event or program?
You can bring ideas to a PTA meeting, speak to a PTA Committee Chair about your proposal, or email the PTA board at ps384qpta@ps384qpta.org.

  14. How does the PTA communicate with parents?
Communication happens mainly through ClassDojo, WhatsApp groups, and the PTA’s website.
